Collectibilities
Welcome to my blog where I will talk about my online collectibles business here in Toledo, Ohio. I love to shop at garage sales, estate sales and auctions to find valuables that are looking for new homes. Hopefully you enjoy my stories and maybe even learn a little about some "buried treasures" to search for!

Great American Airlines Silverware
I picked up this lot of flatware used by American Airlines today at a garage sale. They have the American Airlines logo and were made by Sola, a company from Holland. I think they are very mid-century modern looking!

Antique Pewter Ice Cream Molds
Ice cream molds are neat little collectibles that were used to create desserts of molded ice cream made into different designs. There were hundreds of designs featuring animals, shapes, bells or even famous people or commemorating holidays. The most common molds are the single serving size but there were also banquet-sized molds for large desserts to be the centerpiece of the table.
Below are a few of my ice cream molds on Ebay:

Nine Flags Mens Cologne
I was SUPER excited to find this 1970's set of Nine Flags cologne at a local estate sale for $1.00 this weekend! These were colognes created to represent nine different countries. One bottle alone sells for good money and this set is hard to find!

Selling historical photographs
I recently bought some WWII snapshots taken by a US soldier stationed in Germany at an estate sale. They were very interesting and the soldier had written notes on the backs. Some photos showed Nazi flags and surrendering German soldiers. I personally would have kept these in the family but they were being sold at the estate sale. Photos with historical significance can do very well on Ebay!

Dawn Dolls
Dawn Dolls
Dawn dolls were 6” tall fashion dolls similar to Barbie but smaller. They were first produced from 1970-1973 by Topper, then they were revived in the late 1990’s until 2003. Like Barbie, Dawn had lots of friends and also accessories. These dolls are most noticeable for their mod, groovy style and clothes of the early 1970’s. They were vinyl and jointed and the knees “click” to hold a pose.
Because many were produced and were inexpensive, these dolls can be easy to find and sell for reasonable prices.

Vintage Health and Beauty Gadgets
Health and Beauty Gadgets
Be on the look-out for retired or discontinued beauty or skin care gadgets. One such item called "Dermal-Tone" was recently discontinued and bringing good money on Ebay. I paid $2.00 for one recently and it sold for $150.00.
Another one to look for is the Connie Stevens Forever Spring Time Machine.
In short, any older or vintage heath or beauty aid, especially featuring a past celebrity is a pretty safe bet.

Vintage and Designer Perfumes and Bottles
Vintage and Designer Perfumes and Bottles
It is always a good idea to look for perfume and even empty perfume bottles at garage sales, thrift stores and estate sales for resale purposes. Many people collect vintage perfumes and others are simply looking for their favorite perfume that has been discontinued. Other times, buyers are searching Ebay for designer fragrances so they can get a lower price.
I will usually purchase perfumes that aren't completely full, also, if they are collectible or sought after.
I look for:
1. Current designer brands (Chanel, Burberry, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana....)
2. Discontinued fragrances (Almost any discontinued perfume has a disappointed fan somewhere. Some older Mary Kay does well in this category.)
3. Older perfume bottles are very collectible, even if they are empty. These tend to be bottles from higher-end fragrances. Look for heavy, well-made bottles, unusual designs or figural bottles and anything marked France. Some very collectible bottles were made by Lalique, Tiffany, Baccarat, and Steuben.
I'm often asked about Avon bottles. Avon made many hundreds of styles of bottles, most labeled as collectible. I have found that most don't bring much money on Ebay at all. The exceptions to this are the newer high-end fragrances that Avon has been producing recently and some fragrances that were discontinued.
I have found perfumes to resell at garage sales, estate sales (check the bathrooms and dresser tops), thrift stores, auctions, and overstock stores. There is a great market out there for collectors and just people searching for their discontinued favorites.
